250 Members of the U.S., Canadian, and British Military Participate in Plantings and the Restoration of Recreational Areas Along Lakeshore Drive!

A battalion of military personnel volunteered their talents and time to partner with HFK to paint shelters, replace wood on picnic tables and benches, and plant 100 Cypress, Oaks, Pine, and Crepe Myrtle trees along Lakeshore Drive during the City’s NOLA Navy Week.  We were honored to have been chosen by ServeNOLA to coordinate this effort on behalf of the Mayor’s Office and the Orleans Levee District.

We would like to thank our sponsors, the Azby Fund, the Greater New Orleans Foundation, the St. Paul’s Homecoming Center, Bayou Tree Service, Lakeview Demolition, and the NOLA Navy Week Host Committee, for their TREEmendous contributions to the beautification of our lakefront.

Gold Medal Day with U.S. Olympians Joined by UNO Tennis Teams to Restore Behrman Park.

HFK lead a team effort which included members of the U.S. Olympic Advisory Committee

who are Olympic and Paralympic Athletes.  They were joined by Coach Burzis Kanga and the UNO Tennis Teams for a day of community service at Behrman Park.

They painted tennis courts, concession stand, and restroom facilities.

Councilmember Kristin Palmer joined the Olympians and Paralympians by presenting a New Orleans City Council Proclamation in appreciation for their team efforts to restore Behrman Park.

Of course they did their tasks with the utmost professionalism and perfection.  It was truly a Gold Medal performance!  Our sincere appreciation to Mary Jo Webster and ServeNOLA partnering with HFK on this project.

HFK has created several initiatives as part of the New Orleans Super  Bowl Environmental Committee.  There are several goals and they include the following:

• 7,000 trees planted by Super Bowl XLVII in February 2013
• Break the NFL record for most trees planted by a Super Bowl host city currently held by Dallas at 5,000 trees
• Branch out to other Parishes such as St. Bernard, Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, and St. Tammany by giving away 1,000 trees at a one-day event which include educational workshops
• 47 Projects for Super Bowl XLVII (47) – We have completed 25 projects so far!  Future projects will include plantings in neighborhoods, schools, NORD playgrounds, and neutral grounds

• Organize your neighborhood plantings early for the Fall planting season
• Support our organization through ordering and purchasing lots of  fruit trees at $25.00 each tree!
• Consider being a Sponsor!  All of these initiatives require funding.  All sponsors and partners are recognized at all of our events, on our banners, press releases, and our website!
